Why take Collagen Peptides Orally
Collagen makes up approximately 30% of our total body’s Protein. As a major structural component of the human body it is crucial to joints, bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, skin, hair and nails. On average our Collagen levels have dropped by 24% by the age of 45. Collagen Peptide Original has been processed to stimulate biological activity to optimise specific physiological benefits in our skin, hair and nails.
As we age, hormones, nutrition and sun damage all impact on the amount of Collagen in the skin or dermis which supports the epidermis or outer layer of the skin. As the Collagen reduces in the dermis, the outer layer starts to fold or collapse, forming wrinkles. Several scientific experiments have been carried out to evaluate the influence of digested Collagen to stimulate cell synthesis and supply of amino acids as building blocks for the skin, giving noticeably firmer, smoother skin with fewer wrinkles.
The first study carried out showed evidence of higher skin elasticity of up to 15% when 69 women, between the ages of 35 and 55 were given oral Collagen treatment compared to placebo treatment. Results were measured at 4 weeks, 8 weeks and again at 12 weeks, 4 weeks after treatment had finished. All results showed improved Skin elasticity compared to the placebo treatment (ref – 1: August 2013).
The second study carried out showed evidence of a reduction of wrinkles and a significant increase in skin procollagen concentration. Over 100 women between the ages of 45 and 65 years old were given Collagen or Placebo treatment for 4 weeks. The dermal matrix synthesis showed almost 60% increase in Procollagen compared to the placebo treat which showed very slight increase. (ref -2: December 2013)
The third study documented in the Journal of Medicinal Food showed evidence of a decrease in cellulite when measured at 3 and 6 months of Collagen supplementation. 105 women aged between 25 and 50 years took a daily dose of 2.5 grams of Collagen. Skin density was measured via ultrasound and noticeably this beauty aspect, not disease, that affects about 85% of female population showed stimulated extracellular matrix formation in the skin (ref 3: 2015).
In Summary, women trust Collagen and have been using Collagen in cosmetics for years. Cosmetically used Collagen targets a specific area, whereas digested Collagen U does not target a specific area. Instead offering a whole body result in quite a short period of time as suggested in the studies above. Giving back to the body, through the gut.
How are Collagen Peptides Made?
Collagen peptides come from processing the Collagen that comes from grass eating animal protein. The three main types of Collagen is Beef, Pork and Marine and they are working on Vegan. The Collagen is processed so it becomes bioavailable to the body to enable it to be rapidly absorbed by almost 100%. The processing of the Collagen to become a Collagen Peptide involves changing the molecular structure. To do this, enzymes are added, pH adjusted and time and temperature are all part of the process.
Processing Collagen to become a bioactive involves the cutting of the Collagen into specific Peptides. The processing capability is not presently available in Australia, so the Collagen used by Collagen U is processed in Europe. The Collagen Peptides used in all of Collagen U products are:
- Natural Food
- Clean Label (no E numbers)
- Highly digestible Food
- Non- Allergenic Food
Collagen+U Pomegranate juice contains a protein that consumed as a drink, works from the inside out. Collagen is hard to absorb through the skin, but this doesn’t mean give up the Collagen creams. Collagen+U tastes good, has added vitamin C to boost the Collagen, fibre, pomegranate fruit for natural sugars, beetroot powder to enhance the delivery of oxygen and reduce the work on the heart allowing longer workouts (ref 4). No fat and only natural sweetener.
